Welcome to bayareametro.gov, the access portal to reach the websites of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG).

MTC and ABAG are partner regional agencies that are working together to make the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area more livable and sustainable. While separate governing boards are directing the agencies’ work, their staffs have been brought together to promote better collaboration and integration on their common goals, and to achieve operating efficiencies. A primary focus of the combined staff has been the crafting of Plan Bay Area 2040, an update to the regional plan that will guide land use, housing production and transportation investments over the next 25 years.

Adopted by MTC and ABAG in the summer of 2017, Plan Bay Area 2040 is the strategic update to the groundbreaking Plan Bay Area in 2013. The latest version of the region’s integrated long-range plan builds on earlier work to develop an efficient transportation network, provide more housing choices, and grow in a financially and environmentally responsible way. Plan Bay Area is a roadmap to help Bay Area cities and counties preserve the character of our diverse communities while adapting to the challenges of future population growth and climate change. See more on Plan Bay Area 2040.
